P.J. Candle Co. began the way most dramatic things do — out of frustration, high standards, and a little flair for the theatrical. I was tired of candles that looked beautiful but smelled forgettable. Of “luxury” that didn’t feel personal. So I started pouring my own — scents that actually did something. Made you laugh. Made you pause. Made you remember.
What started as a kitchen experiment quickly turned into something bigger. Friends and family chimed in with name ideas, inside jokes, and stories that sparked entire collections. Before long, every candle had a backstory, a personality, and a reason to exist — not just to scent a room, but to create a moment.

I’m P.J. — and yes, this really is that personal.
P.J. is what my family and oldest friends have always called me, so it only felt right to keep that energy at the heart of this brand. P.J. Candle Co. is run out of my home studio, with the occasional guest appearance from my senior rescue pup, Max, and a whole lot of help and support from my husband, Jesse — who also owns his own business, El Gallo Catrin Barber Studio.
Watching Jesse build something meaningful and community-driven lit a fire in me (if you’ll pardon the pun) to create my own version of that — something that felt bold, personal, and built on joy.
This is a proudly queer-owned business that believes in storytelling, connection, and making something worth remembering.
